Background
NeoMed ensures secure electronic transmission of prescriptions (eprescribing) to pharmacies. Exchanging prescription information electronically between physicians and pharmacies improves the accuracy of the prescribing process and saves time. ePrescribing also eliminates the need to print prescriptions, streamlines the process for physicians, and helps to control the possible misuse of printed prescriptions.
Onboarding
As part of the NeoMed onboarding process, your organization administrator will coordinate with Help Center - NeoDeck Holdings Official Website if assistance is needed with licenses, IDP, or digital certificates.
License
Prescribers are required to obtain a NeoMed Prescriber License
If the prescriber will be prescribing controlled substances electronically, the prescriber needs to register for electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS).
Consult with your administrator for more information.
Identity Proofing (IDP)
IDP is the process by which a Credential Service Provider (CSP) or Certification Authority (CA) validates sufficient information to uniquely identify a person. NeoDeck Holdings has partnered with IdenTrust to provide IDP services.
IDP for ePrescribing Only
Prescribing practitioners must undergo IDP at NIST SP 800-63 Identity Assurance Level (IAL) 2.
IDP Only option for one year is required for eprescribing of non-controlled substances.
This option is not required If prescriber opts for EPCS IDP and digital certificate (IAL 3) since this option supersedes IDP only option (IAL 2).
IDP and Digital Certificates for EPCS
NeoMed supports the secure transmission of EPCS (Drug Enforcement Administration Schedules I, II, III, IV, and V). This option enforces two-factor authentication when electronically prescribing Controlled Substances as required by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Prescribers must undergo IDP at NIST SP 800-63 Identity Assurance Level (IAL) 3. The binding of the user to the IdenTrust IGC digital certificates comply with DEA requirements for NIST SP 800-63 Digital Identity Guidelines and provide IAL 3 for IDP.
NeoDeck Holdings has partnered with IdenTrust to provide IDP for EPCS and issue digital certificates.
Digital Certificate
IdenTrust Global Common (IGC) digital certificates are cross-certified with the U.S. Federal Bridge Certification Authority, enabling trust, and interoperability with a wide range of systems and applications. Each individual IGC Certificate includes both a certificate for authentication/digital signing and a certificate for encryption.
Browser
The prescriber must download the certificate on a personal computer using Chrome, Firefox, Edge or any other browser per provided instructions.
Mobile Authentication
HID Approve app will allow managing and using the EPCS software certificate using an iPhone (IOS) or Android mobile device application. This will allow the prescriber to approve EPCS prescriptions to comply with DEA requirements. When e-prescribing a controlled substance, the prescriber will use the mobile device to approve or decline the prescription.
